December Events
December was jam-packed full of holiday events but some of the biggest were the band and choir programs as well as the annual craft fair. There was a total of three large performances last month. There was the 5th grade through 12th grade band concert, the 7th grade through 12th grade choir concert, and the Kindergarten through 3rd grade holiday concert that all took place. The craft fair also took place last month and was one of the biggest ones Battle Lake School has hosted in years according to activities director, Mr. Marso. Another event that took place around the holiday season was the Battle Lake School Spelling Bee, with Cora Walker coming in second and August Wicklund coming in first.
The Battle Lake Public School also held their Minnesota Honor Society Induction Ceremony. There was a total of eleven new inductees; Kathleen George, Annah Evavold, Fern Brackin, Makenna Tysdal, Tessa Kortlever, Halie Johnson, Hayle Knudson, Paige Mills, Connor Drake, Eli Carlson, and Maleah Hull. They were joined on stage by those inducted last year; President Brady Scholten, Vice President Natalie Johansen, Secretary Allison Marso, Historian Brianna Fischer, Cole Brander, Emily Cole, Nicholas Van Erp, and Melody Lundquist. Piano was played by Emily Cole and entertainment was provided by the Battle Lake Chorale. The guest speaker was former Battle Lake teacher, Sandra Thimgan.
McKenna Tysdal hosted a blood drive during the month of December and had a total of 34 people out of a goal of 35 donate blood. This shortage was not due to the lack of volunteers, because 46 people showed up to donate, but due to various medical reasons some were not able to donate.
